Athletic Participation Rules & Policies
1

1.      CLS athletes will conduct themselves in a Christ-like manner. Remember we represent Christian Life School. While participating in CLS athletics:

  • An athlete's language and attitude to other players, coaches, officials and fans must be respectful and edifying. NO foul language.
  • Athletes are expected to be respectful and supportive of the coaching staff in public and private. Athletes are accountable to their coaches.

2.      At every practice CLS athletes must:

  • Be on time. Appointments should be scheduled around practice times. Unless a player has a valid excuse, being absent will affect playing time and starting privileges.
  • Be attentive and active. If a player is disruptive during practice, they will be asked to sit out or leave and their parents/guardian notified.
  • Keep locker room and practice areas clean and pick up trash after practice.
  • Dress appropriately.

3.      For home games all CLS athletes are expected to:

  • Report at the appropriate time before the start of the game.
  • Arrange for their own transportation to and from the game.

4.      For away games all CLS athletes will:

  • Meet at school or a prearranged location and will leave together. Students may not be left unsupervised in the building between school dismissal and game departure time.
  • Arrange for their own transportation to and from the departure site.

5.      For away games where the bus is being used:

·         Remain seated on the bus at all times.

·         No one enters or exits the bus through the rear door. This is for emergency situations only!

·         Help keep the bus clean. No throwing of anything on the bus. Keep your own trash and throw it away once you get off the bus.

·         Help to keep the isle unobstructed.

·         Away games are an extension of CLS activities, therefore, if you are not supposed to do it or have it at school then do not do it or bring it on the bus (CDs, CD players, Boom Boxes, Gameboys, etc.).

6.      Starting and playing time policies for the different levels of competition are as follows:

·         Elementary Emphasis is on developing basic skills and fundamentals and having fun. Coaches are striving for full participation. Every player will receive playing time in every game and the opportunity to start in their fair share of the number of games scheduled.

·         Junior High Emphasis is on developing and improving advanced skills and fundamentals and to prepare players for the next level of competition. Coaches are striving for full participation. Every player should expect playing time. The amount of playing time is at the coach's discretion and is based on attitude, hard work, attendance and skill level.

·         Varsity / JV Starting and playing time will be based on attitude, hard work, attendance and skill level. Starting and playing time are solely at the discretion of the coach.

7.      Upon occasion it becomes prudent for a coach to pull players up to the next level of competition. In these instances:

·         The Athletic Director and coaches will discuss and evaluate the player who is to be promoted and decide when the player is pulled up and for how long the player is pulled up.

·         The starting and playing time policies, of the level that a player is promoted to, are then fully applicable to the player that was promoted.

·         The coaches will contact the player's parents/guardian and inform them of the possible promotion. This is the parents/guardian opportunity to ask questions and express any concerns or reservations.

8.      All CLS student athletes are expected to keep their grades at no less than the CLS required minimum standards. The details of the CLS academic requirements are contained in the accompanying document; CLS Extra Curricular Eligibility Requirements.

9.      Participation of Non-CLS student athletes will be determined in the following manner:

·         Non-CLS students need to register for the sport they wish to play in within the specified time frame to ensure at least a tryout for roster openings

·         CLS students will fill available roster openings first.

·         Non-CLS student athletes will then fill any openings on the roster.

·         Tryouts will be held in the event there are more Non-CLS student athletes registered then there are openings on a sports team roster. Registration fees will be returned for any Non-CLS student that did not make the team.

·         Late registrations will fill roster openings on a first come basis.

·         Once a Non-CLS student athlete is on a CLS sports team they are then viewed and treated as a CLS athlete. All previous mentioned standards of conduct and playing time are then fully applicable.
