9th Grade Curriculum 

Social Studies - Government  1 semester
Students will learn that human government was created by God to control man's sinful nature.  They will study the origins and forms of government, including Christians' responsibility in their government.  An in-depth study of the Constitution including landmark Supreme Court cases, will help students see how the supreme law of the land governs all aspects of our lives.  Participation in the political process at all levels is strongly encouraged.

Language Arts  2 semesters
Students read selections in world literature to develop skills in critical reading, thinking, and comprehension, as well as for enjoyment and appreciation of excellence.  Emphasis is placed on vocabulary development in preparation for college placement exams, including the SATs.  Longer works read include Romeo and Juliet, Animal Farm, Tom Sawyer, and To Kill a Mockingbird. Ninth graders write several types of essays, an adventure story, and poetry. They continue to develop research skills and produce an interdisciplinary research paper.  Students also continue the study of English grammar, usage, and mechanics in conjunction with their writing.

Science - Biology  2 semesters
Using regular class work with lab experience, students will study Cells - the basic unit of life, Respiration - the energy of life, and Reproduction - the perpetuation of life.  Students will begin to classify God's amazing organisms according to specific kingdom and species characteristics.  A unit on the theories of life's origin will encourage students to question and discover fallacies and evidences surrounding some secular theories while recognizing Biblical truth.   Study of human anatomy and how the body functions with and reacts to its surroundings allow the student to learn the importance of biology in everyday life.  They are encouraged to recognize God's perfect design in the amazing world He created.

Mathematics - Geometry  2 semesters
Geometry deals with the measurement, properties and relationships of points, lines, and angles. Students will study deductive and inductive reasoning, using "if - then" logic to prove concepts of geometry involving definitions and applications of lines and angles, postulates and theorems of triangles, polygons, and polyhedron.  Students will also study transformations, circles, spheres and parallel and perpendicular lines.  Inequality, similarity and concurrences will be topics of discovery.

Bible - Let God Be God  1 semester
Students will explore God's character and nature and will apply their understanding of who God is to who God desires the student to be.  Methods include study of the Bible using student activities, discussion, and projects.

Bible - Connecting With God  1 semester
Students will survey the New Testament and study key concepts, background, and applications.  Methods include study of the Bible using student activities, discussion, projects, and written.

Spanish - Spanish 1  2 semesters
Students will learn basic vocabulary and grammar essential to building a solid foundation for use in upper level classes.  Bible verses and books of the Bible are memorized in Spanish.  Basic cultural awareness of the Spanish-speaking world is introduced.
